Lead YOU and the rest follow

by Sarah Kiggundu on Monday, Sep 13th, 2010

I woke up this morning with a spring in my step. Yep, I got it all this weekend and then some. I had a great weekend. And now I look forward to a magical week. I spent the day yesterday creating my goals and learning how to make them happen. I was all about personal leadership.

You see every book that I have been reading lately has been talking about having goals. How important it is to have goals, to have clarity. To ensure that you are sitting in the driver’s seat of your life. So I did just that yesterday. I got clarity. I have a very wild goal that I am looking to achieve and now I have a spring in my step, my life has now very clearly become mine and I’m driving this all the way to the end!

In essence this is what personal or self leadership is about. Its about me. It’s about taking care of me, eating well, balance, integrating my life, its about growth in all areas, its about taking care of my relationships, its about asking the hard questions. Not lying to myself about what I’m eating, or why I’m so devastated because he doesn’t love me anymore, breaking habits that don’t see me energized and ready to take on the world. Can you see where I’m going with this? The question is - how important are you to you?  We will be having fun at the SAWOMENG Network functions across the country looking at this question and developing your personal goals so don’t miss out. Book now because I will be sharing my learnings and helping you to uncover your hidden treasure. Your power to lead you and therefore lead others and be lead. If you are not able to come don’t despair read on and get a glimpse….

I firmly believe that knowing ourselves – self awareness - is the single most important thing in our lives. I’m willing to bet on it. Whether it’s the job you are looking for, the house to buy, the car, the man of your dreams, the suit to wear, financial planning -  anything starts with knowing who you are. In fact it becomes easier to make all these decisions when you know what you are about and it minimizes the chances for heartbreak, disappointments, restlessness and hurts.

Self awareness is the corner stone of personal or self leadership. In turn this makes for a great quality in a leader. Knowing what you stand for, your goals, your dreams, your strengths, your dislikes, your interests and abilities. This knowledge becomes power and with it you are able to make choices for every aspect of your life. It ignites the strength, the courage, the brilliance and the wisdom that lies in each and every one of us. And what better way to lead people than to inspire them from within.

Self leadership is your desire to take charge of your own life. To ensure that you are in the driver’s seat and you know where this car is going. Self leaders realize that leadership is not a position or title reserved for a special few (whether bestowed or learnt), it is a way of life and our responsibility to advance this generation and the next. Self leaders make a choice to make a difference in the world and they start with themselves….

Catch you at the Networking sessions and be sure to be there to look at practical ways of cultivating your personal leadership.

To your brilliance

Val

inspiring indeed, I read three books on leadership in 2011-------emotional intelligence, 360 degree leadership and the monk who sold he Ferarri, had other interesting reads but those gave me some awareness from leading in my life to leading @ the workplace ........I was truly transformed and was confidence in what I wanted to achieve and I had personally grown....so ladies lets keep reading even in 2012 and be on the driver's seat............by the way I even have bible a book "99 bible verses for leaders" ..........thats how much I believe in leadership.
